Kestenbaum & Company, New Yorks premier Auction House of Rare and Antique Judaica is pleased to present the first ever Auction of Fine and Rare Vintage Kosher Wines – Vintage Capcanes the Flor de Primavera – from this vineyard-turned-winery in Spain. Capcanes is one of the oldest growers of grapes from the famed Montsant region of Spain and began producing kosher wines in the mid-1990s with the urging of the Jewish community in Barcelona (pre-auction estimates range from $250-350 per bottle up to $3,000-4,000 per case, lots 78-90).

Les fotografíes hauran de versar sobre un fet, situació o circumstància que aconsegueixi expresar amb especial sensibilitat i habilitat la verema que es viu a Capçanes, a partir de la primera semana de Setembre fins a finals d´Octubre.

After weeks of hard work the new website of Celler de Capçanes has been activated by replacing the previous one. It offers new features and functionalities that we hope will be of interest to all of you:

Finn Kydland, Premio Nobel de Economía en 2004, ha visitado a la bodegas del Celler de Capçanes, donde se ha mostrado interesado por el modelo de empresa cooperativa. También ha podido probar los vinos que elaboran y que hoy día compiten en un mercado cada vez más global.

Celler de Capcanes is one of the leading estates of Montsant and arguably one of the great producers of Kosher wine this side of Manischewitz. This unusual story began in 1995 when the Jewish community of Barcelona asked Capcanes if they could produce a Kosher wine. The installation of new equipment allowed for the production of Kosher wine but also high quality wines from the old vine Garnacha and Carinena grown in the local villages by the 80 members of the cooperative. While the Kosher wines put Capcanes on the map, it represents only 2% of the production and now it is the other 98% which drives the business. The following wines were tasted during my visit to Celler de Capcanes in January, 2011.

Després de la visita i el tast de vins, els vam oferir una calçotada al Vall del Calàs, a 700metres d´alçada, on en Jay va aprendre la forma autèntica de menjar calçots a casa nostra, tot maridat amb els nostres vins.

Ingeniero Agrícola por la Universitat de Barcelona, trabajó en el Institut Català de la Vinya i el Vi. Además, ha trabajado en su finca desde 1970. Ahora, y desde 1980, es presidente de la cooperativa de Capçanes. Una entidad que ha crecido en los últimos años, gracias a su especialidad ‘kosher’.

A principios de los noventa el presidente de la cooperativa, Francesc Blanch, salió al extranjero a vender su vino. La aventura fue el primer capítulo de una historia llena de éxitos en todo el mundo.
